About Certificates of Analysis

Every product is intended to ship with a Certificate of Analysis for its specific lot. This page explains what that document is, what it reports, and how to verify one.

1. What a Certificate of Analysis is

A Certificate of Analysis (COA) is a document that reports the results of analytical testing performed on a specific production lot of a material. It records what was tested, the method used, the result, and the specification the result is compared against. A COA is tied to a lot (batch) number, not to a product in general — two lots of the same product each have their own COA. A COA reports laboratory measurements for research materials; it is not a clearance for any use in or on a human or animal (see the Research Use Disclaimer).

2. What a COA typically reports

  • Identity — the material name and lot number.
  • Purity — measured by a stated method such as high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), reported as a percentage.
  • Identity confirmation — for example by mass spectrometry (MS) confirming the expected molecular mass.
  • Appearance and physical form — for example a lyophilized powder and fill weight.
  • Testing laboratory and date — who performed the analysis and when.

Exact panels vary by material and by what a lot’s testing covered. Where a value is not part of a lot’s testing, it is shown as not reported rather than assumed.

3. Specification versus measured value

We present two distinct things and never conflate them:

  • a specification — the standard we hold a material to (for example, a purity specification of {{PURITY_SPEC}}, typically stated as ≥98.0%). A specification is a claim about the standard, not a measurement of a particular lot.
  • a measured lot value — the number an instrument actually produced for a specific lot, as reported on that lot’s COA.

A missing measured value never inherits the specification. Until a lot has published results, the measured value is shown as an empty state, so a standard we hold to is never mistaken for a measurement we have not made.

4. Our per-lot verification commitment

Our intent is that every order ships with the COA for the specific lot supplied, and that each lot’s COA is published to the COA library and made verifiable by lot number. Testing is intended to be performed by {{TESTING_LABORATORY}}, an independent third-party laboratory. We describe only testing that has actually been performed for a given lot, and we do not publish analytical values, laboratory names, or accreditations that a document in our possession does not support.

5. Current status

The COA library, lot viewer, and batch-lookup tools are built and ready. At this stage there is no published lot data yet: certificates and measured values populate as real third-party results are finalized for each released lot. Where a lot’s results are pending, the product page and COA tools show a clearly labeled empty state rather than a placeholder figure. {{COA_PROGRAM_STATUS}}

6. How to view and verify a COA

You can browse published certificates in the COA library, and confirm the certificate for a specific lot using the batch-lookup tool with the lot number printed on your vial or packing slip.
